Paper Camellia Present Toppers
Sunday, December 15, 12:30-2:30pm

Instructor: Jessica Smith

In this 2 hour class you will learn to construct Japanese Camellias from crepe paper. These romantic blooms, known as the "Rose of Winter" are perfect to tuck onto your holiday tree or wreath, or to top a special present. Each student will receive a materials packet that includes information about the flower, templates, materials to make one bloom in class, and more paper to create a second bloom at home, with a YouTube video to follow along to.

Folium is a study of the colors, scale, patterns, and repetitive components of flowers, foliage, and small plants - recreated entirely in paper. Jessica auclair Smith is a Boston-based artist. She received her BFA with a focus in jewelry and metalsmithing from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2007. In addition to her studio jewelry, this ongoing study is born out of a lifelong love of plants. All her work is hand-dyed, hand-cut, and assembled individually. No two flowers are quite the same. Materials include various weights of Italian crepe paper, Canson paper, vintage stamens, and wire, and colors are manipulated using pressed pastels, alcohol inks, spray tints, and artist's Gouache.
