Magical Mini-Garden (ages 6 and up)
Sunday, September 23, 2:00 - 3:00 PM

Member $8, Non-member $8 per participant. Limit 20 people.

This hands-on workshop for children 6 years and older combines an introduction to plants by answering basic questions: What is a plant? Why are plants important? What do plants need to grow? They then will assemble a simple dish garden with easy to care for plants that can also serve as a "home" for their favorite fairy, princess, dragon, dinosaur or other magical friend. Children can also bring their own miniature friend from home. Registration is required. Materials fee: $8.00

Betsy Szymczak has been an avid outdoor vegetable and flower gardener for many years and enjoys starting her vegetable, herb and annuals from seed. She dabbled in a few houseplants until about 6 years ago when she joined the Buxton Branch of the American Begonia Society (ABS). This diverse genus of plants, not native to North America, quickly became another plant passion that satisfies her need to garden year-round. She is an ABS certified begonia judge and was recently named ABS Judging Co-Chair. Betsy has judged begonia sections at the Philadelphia and Boston Flowers shows and volunteers at the Lyman Estate Greenhouses. She recently retired from 35+ years of teaching clinical microbiology at several Boston area colleges and universities.
